For the last four years I have run what I consider a very successful tournament and using basically the same format.   I hope this years tournament will be spectacular.  This Tournament is designed for one purpose only:  To get fishermen into my store and out on the water to have fun fishing and competing against other anglers to see who can prove most proficient at catching striped bass.  There will be no grand scheme to raise money for any "Worthy Cause". I have carefully picked the dates for the tournament taking into account what I have found to be when there is the best volume of stripers in the area and when the tides coincide to have  the best chance for early evening and early morning high tides.

Because of the changes in the striper regulations over the past year,  there will be changes in the tournament.  The biggest change will be that each angler will be able to weigh in two stripers over 28" in length. This will actually simplify the weigh in process, but will eliminate the biggest slot fish category.  At the present time I am debating on the need for a Friday night weigh in.  ( DEBATE IS OVER THERE WILL BE A FRIDAY NIGHT WEIGH IN  8PM TO 12 MIDNIGHT)   My own feeling is that it is a good idea and does give us the chance to have a Friday Night Calcutta.  I would like feedback on this and will make a final decision n plenty of time to plan accordingly.

I will also be changing the divisions around slightly.  Because of the increasing number of "FisherWomen" entering the tournament  I am going to offer them a division of their own.  Also the Kayak division didn't really pan out last year, but since there are a good number of anglers that would rather fish alone than with a crew I am going to change the Kayak division into a "Solo" division. The "Solo Division will not have to enter the Captains Pool since they would not be able to weigh in more than one days limit of two fish without a Friday weigh in.   If either of these divisions does not get at least ten entries they will automatically be entered into the appropriate boat or land category.

I am also going to give our younger anglers a chance to fish without putting too big a crimp in dads wallet.  There will be a FREE division for kids 16 and younger who are fishing with a registered adult. Youth Division fish will be counted towards the "Captains Pool" when they are caught on a registered boat.  The FREE division will be limited to donated prizes which I'm sure will be numerous.  However if you are in the age bracket and want to fish for the big bucks with the adults you will be permitted enter the regular division, however you will still be able to win youth division prizes.

I will take out a very nominal amount for expenses and production costs but I will put back  $15.00 toward prizes for every $20.00 entry fee. In the past I have donated  a small portion of the entry fee to two very important groups who are very helpful in  fighting for the rights of the recreational fisherman.  The RFA and the JCAA.  Even though these continue to be very important groups and all anglers should support and be part of both groups, this year I plan  to add to last years donation to  StriperTracker.org  in order to finish payment to adopt a fish.  There will be $2.00 donated for every entry received.  Last years tournament left me a little short to sponsor a fish so I'm sure I'll be able to complete the transaction this year.

Scientists from the Rutgers University Marine Field Station are trying to better understand the coastal migration of striped bass. The study area includes the Mullica River/Great Bay estuary, the southern end of Barnegat Bay, and the coastal ocean outside of Little Egg Inlet off Tuckerton, Hopefully I will be able finish sponsorship of  one striper and if the tournament really takes off we should be able to do more. We'll have to come up with names for any fish and I will be looking into the possibility of actually getting the fish tagged during the tournament.

I plan to have a variety of prizes ( Prize Page) in order to spread the wealth somewhat and make the tournament a little more interesting.  I have planned this tournament in prime fishing time for the striped bass so everyone should be fishing anyway.  I only hope that fishing in this tournament will add to your fun.  In order to add to the prize pool I am actively seeking donations from any possible partner or sponsor especially any related to fishing bait and equipment that pertain directly to striper fishing. follow the links to the 2004 and 2005 pages to see who were supporters, I expect that all will step once again up this year.  As Sponsors join on, their donated prizes will be listed and their links will be added to all the  pages

If you would like to be part of one of the biggest striper fishing events in South Jersey follow the link to the Sponsors Page

October has just begun and there is still some time to make changes in this tournament so if you have any suggestions please post them on the message board or e-mail
