For the last two years I have run what I consider a very successful tournament and using basically the same format. I hope this years tournament will be spectacular. This Tournament is designed for one purpose only: To get fishermen into my store and out on the water to have fun fishing and competing against other anglers to see who can prove most proficient at catching striped bass. There will be no grand scheme to raise money for any "Worthy Cause". I realize I am running the tournament just a little late for the best weather, but if you are a die hard striper fisherman you know that the best fishing is only beginning. As Striper Fishermen are supposed to be a hearty breed and given that all land and back bay areas are open there will be no weather cut off. Please fish safe, but you've got to fish to win. I will take out a very nominal amount for expenses and production costs but I will put back $15.00 toward prizes for every $20.00 entry fee. In the past I have donated a small portion of the entry fee to two very important groups who are very helpful in fighting for the rights of the recreational fisherman. The RFA and the JCAA. Even though these continue to be very important groups and all anglers should support and be part of both groups, this year I plan to make this years donation of $2.00 per entry to StriperTracker.org Scientists from the Rutgers University Marine Field Station are trying to better understand the coastal migration of striped bass. The study area includes the Mullica River/Great Bay estuary, the southern end of Barnegat Bay, and the coastal ocean outside of Little Egg Inlet off Tuckerton, Hopefully I will be able to sponsor at least one striper and if the tournament really takes off we should be able to do more. We'll have to come up with names for any fish and I will be looking into the possibility of actually getting the fish tagged during the tournament. I plan to have a variety of prizes ( Prize Page) in order to spread the wealth somewhat and make the tournament a little more interesting. I have planned this tournament in prime fishing time for the striped bass so everyone should be fishing anyway. I only hope that fishing in this tournament will add to your fun. In order to add to the prize pool I am actively seeking donations from any possible partner or sponsor especially any related to fishing bait and equipment that pertain directly to striper fishing. The businesses already listed here donated prizes for 2003 and I expect that they will step once again up this year. I have already been contacted by Pure Fishing, the parent company of Berkley, Stren, ABU Garcia, and many other fine fishing products. They may be offering sample packages for all entrants. If you would like to be part of one of the biggest striper fishing events in South Jersey follow the link to the Sponsors Page October has just begun and there is still some time to make changes in this tournament so if you have any suggestions please post them on the message board or e-mail to doitallnight@abseconbay.com
1. ENTRY FEE' will be "$20 PER PERSON" for boat or land based fishermen. This fee must be received at Absecon Bay Sportsman Center prior to closing Thursday November 11th. Late entries will be accepted at check in on November 12th until midnight. Late entries will be $25. $15 of every will be used for prizes awarded. A complete breakdown of entry fees usage and prizes will be listed on a prize page.. $2 of each entry will be for donation, Hopefully to www.stripertracker.org If we can get a fish or two to wear Absecon Bay Tags. $3 will be used to offset some of my expenses. 2. "BOUNDARIES" will be from Little Egg Inlet to the north and to Great Egg inlet to the South. This will include all waters, beaches, bridges, jetties and sod banks from 7 Bridges Road to The Somers Point Ocean City Causeway.. 3. Regarding Boat Fishermen: Everyone on a boat must be entered , (Anglers List) and the boat must be registered. There will be an additional $10 boat registration fee which will go 100% to prizes in a "Captain’s Pool." Everyone on the boat need not enter at the same time but at the check in on Friday November 1st, the Captain or appointed member of the crew must confirm who will be fishing the tournament. 4. "CHECK IN" will be held at Absecon Bay Sportsman Center on November 12th prior to fishing. Every land based fisherman and one representative from each boat will be required to check in prior to fishing during business hours on November 12th, which in this case will be 6 am to 12 midnight. There will be prize and sample bags available for anglers checking in so it will be worth your while to show up. 5. "A MIDNIGHT WEIGH-IN" will be held on Friday November 12th, 10 pm. until midnight. This will enable anglers to keep a limit on Friday and another on Saturday to give you a better chance at the big one. There will be a Friday Night Calcutta for those wishing to make a quick trip and still have a chance at a prize. Friday weigh in will be for big fish only over 34”or a big fish and a slot fish if you do not wish or are unable to weigh in Saturday. 6. "FINAL WEIGH IN" will be from 10 am until the tournament completely closes at 12 noon Saturday. Absolutely no late weigh ins and prizes will be awarded at 2 pm. Saturday at Skelly's High Point Inn. 7. Each angler entered will be permitted to weigh in one slot fish and one fish over 34" at the Saturday morning weigh-ins. See Prize Page for a complete list of prizes designed to reward the best fishermen and give LUCK a chance for those who don't find the big one. 8. “Slot Fish” This tournament has prizes which include the weight of slot fish which- are from 24” to 28”. Each angler will be allowed to weigh in only one slot fish during the tournament. If you weigh in a slot fish Friday night that will be your final weigh in. This is to allow anglers who cannot make the Saturday weigh-in a chance to participate. Anyone weighing in a slot fish which is either less than 24" or greater than 28" will have the weight deducted from the weight of their big fish. This will be at the sole discression of the weigh master. The tail of any slot fish must be in perfect shape or tampering will be assumed. 9. All fishing will be done in accepted sporting manner on rod and reel, hook and line. Though I do not expect IGFA rules to be followed exactly they are good guidelines. Wire Lines definitely are acceptable for this tournament. 10. Any PROTESTS must be registered in writing before the end of the tournament at 12 pm. Saturday. I, David Showell, will be the final judge and my decision will be final.
